Gran Caffe L’Aquila

By: Breanna Perez

Gran Caffe L’Aquila near the corner of Chestnut and 17th Streets in Rittenhouse, Philadelphia. This “hole-in-the-wall” cafe is not your average Italian cuisine. Instead, it comes with an authentic culture and an amazing history. Gran Caffe L’Aquila is a historical cafe/bar that originally was very popular in the capital of Abruzzo, L’Aquila. Despite the tragic earth quake that destroyed the town and the restaurant in 2009, this cafe moved to America in hopes to show the Americans what the true Italian coffee and food culture is. They attempted to keep the restaurant as authentically Italian as possible to the point where everything from the artwork is imported from Italy or and each worker has strong Italian roots. This cafe is home to the world’s best gelato mastermind who is constantly pushing the limits in the gelato world, providing sweet and savory flavors to intricately include in each of their meals. Rosa’s Fresh Slice

By: Breanna Perez

Rosa’s Fresh Slice is known for their charitable work they do for the city of Philadelphia.
When you walk in you are greeted by thousands of colorful post it notes. Each of these notes represents $1 that goes towards a fresh and hot slice of pizza to feed a homeless visitor. It reminds the less fortunate the feeling of humanity and compassion while also reminding the community that they can help, even if it is as simple as donating one dollar for one slice of pizza.
